SUPER BOWL PARTY FOODS

The Super Bowl is like a holiday to me, my family and my friends. And what's a Super Bowl party without awesome yummy snack foods??

In the past, (meaning all the way back to college!) we would serve up a variety of snacks for the Super Bowl...buffalo wings, queso dip with tortilla chips, veggies and dip, mozarella sticks, potato skins, pizza....I can't begin to imagine the amount of calories and saturated fats we consumed during that one game!!!

This year it's different because I'm choosing to eat healthier foods. Although it wasn't a "perfect" meal and it's definitely not as appealing as the previous Super Bowl meals, it was still pretty good! I cooked some chicken on the grill along with a lean piece of steak, I made a salad with romaine, baby spinach, cucumbers, tomatoes and olive oil/vinegar dressing, I cooked up some brown rice then we had banana and red grapes for dessert.

Here is an example of the nutritional values of the following foods:

1. Buffalo Wings (not even including the celery and blue cheese!)
4 pieces (87 g)
210 calories
Total Fat 12 g
Sodium 900mg
Protein 22 g

2. Grilled Chicken
3 oz (85 g)
140 calories
Total Fat 1.5 g
Sodium 375 mg
Protein 35 g

Although I'm still hungry and totally craving bad food during the game, I feel great about eating healthy and avoiding all those unhealthy Super Bowl snack foods!!! That's nearly as exciting as the current scoreboard...Steelers 20 Cardinals 23 with 2:30 left in the game!
