Last Friday was such a difficult workout. I was easily frustrated, gave up on my exercises all too readily and overall I wasn't mentally focused on anything! It was awful and I'm sure it must've been frustrating for Chad as well. I left his studio feeling pretty bad about my performance and I promised myself that I would return on Monday with much more energy and commitment!
In the meantime, I purchased some baby spinach on Saturday at the grocery store and began to add it to my salads.
Yesterday (Monday) I was pumped up for my workout and it was awesome! I didn't quit anything intentionally except for one exercise which was incredibly hard (I have rug burns on my elbows so I did try my hardest!) and I felt great when I left Chad.
Perhaps it had something to do with the spinach? ;) Maybe Popeye was right! :) (And I'm sure it also had a lot to do with Chad's help!)
Spinach 101
Did you know that the United States is the second largest producer of spinach in the world (behind China) ?
Spinach is a super food and is low in calories, high in vitamins and minerals including calcium, iron, folate and vitamin A plus spinach is high in phytonutrients such as lutein and zeaxanthin which are important for healthy eyes.

Spinach is an excellent source of vitamin K, vitamin A, manganese, folate, magnesium, iron, vitamin C, vitamin B2, calcium, potassium, and vitamin B6. It is a very good source of dietary fiber, copper, protein, phosphorus, zinc and vitamin E. In addition, it is a good source of omega-3 fatty acids, niacin and selenium
Spinach is part of the Chenopodiaceae family.
There are three varieties of spinach - flat, curly and semi-savory.
The larger the leaves, the more mature they are and more likely to be tough or stringy. (ew!)
So the next time you are at the grocery store, grab some spinach and add it to your diet! You'll be glad you did (and so will your personal trainer!) :)
