I want to keep this blog for the sole purpose of my healthy living goals yet I couldn't resist commenting on how difficult it can be for overweight people to seek out medical care.Everyone has their excuses for not seeing a doctor - regardless of weight. Yet I have to believe that overweight people take longer to seek out medical care and preventative care than their healthy counterparts. Case in point: I've been sick with Katie's chest congestion for at least a week if not longer. I can't sleep. I can't stop coughing. I know I need to see a doctor and get some medicine but the doctor's scale is standing between me and a remedy to finally feel better! How ridiculous is that? Yet shame and fear keep people in restraints - fearful of other's opinions and reactions. One of my goals in everything I'm doing is not only to get my body in a healthy condition but to ultimately seek out preventative healthcare that I have denied myself over the years. Shame and fear should never come between you and your health. It's a deliberate choice to do otherwise.
Stay tuned: Round two is expected to be a TKO with Heather not only defeating the cough but singlehandedly knocking out the doctor's scale at the same time. :)

ok, bff says; realistically well over 50% of the US population is over-weight. Smaller percentages have reached obese and morbidly obese. I would however bet that ALL people feel looked at critically by those who examine them, and those who don't just as well. We all have our insecurities. You know from our talks that I was over weight a number of years ago, and to this day, even thoe (hehe) I am now 150lbs. I can not get myself to jog on the beach without a shirt on. I feel I am always under the microscope. These are feelings that all of us have to deal with regardless of weight.
ReplyDeletePlease listen to this, you are a beautiful, caring, woman who is one of the lucky ones to decide to make a change and want the best possible quality of life. So many will never get to that stage. As far as those who would actually be so perfect to judge anyone.... well
I will keep it clean, this is a family show.. lol.
My suggestion is take the scale head on. take photos, knowing full well that this is a sight that will never be seen again, due to your determination and drive to make it happen. Fear will certainly never drive anything in the right direction. I have so much confidence in you, I know how much better you will feel as things change... the energy, the sizes, the clothes, the confidence. Don't be afraid, be excited. #3 ATA GIRL!!!
